Artist statement

While at Queens college, majoring in music, I sat in on a sculpture class given by Richard McDermott Miller. The class was full, I wasn't signed up for it, but I felt like this was something I really wanted, so I kept showing up to class uninvited and unencouraged by Mr. Miller, and by the end of the year I was working for him as his assistant at his studio on Grand St. in SoHo. I think that was in 1971. There I learned about finishing bronze, working in wax and plaster, and making armatures for sculpture. Mr. Miller had a great respect for the history of sculpture, and had an extensive library of books and color slides, which he made on his travels. I can't say enough about how much I learned from him.

Sonia Fox (my wife) and I moved to Charlottesville Virginia in 1979 where we built our studios and a small bronze foundry, where I have been making and studying sculpture ever since. I have had many commissions over the years for individuals and private and public institutions. I am represented by Les Yeux du Monde Gallery in Charlottesville.
