A. Peyton Hurt
To define, compartmentalize, homogenize, label and sort is a necessity, even compulsion. The urban environment is the subject of this process. The intersection of urban architectural archetypes is represented, disembodied and reduced.
Slabs of color and edges are discovered through the observation of saturated places. There is a naivety and homespun sensibility to the mark making. An urgency to define forms is persistent. Formally they are blunt in execution and direct in presentation. Pictorially the paintings hover between representation and abstraction. A forcefulness and haste to cut shapes and define edges cultivates a stagnate image.
